PATTERN SERIES
This early exploration in tile predates Melchert intentionally breaking them. Here, we see him focused on the surface pattern. He uses squares of tile in a grid-like arrangement, much like that of the gameboards in previous '70s era works. He arranges the patterns, scattering them around the ‘board’ like game pieces within squares of tile. In later iterations in this series, Melchert uses a pattern that references an alternating electrical current. Variations using that pattern emerged over the next couple of years.
